Boomerang Athens featured at EK magazine
Boomerang Athens, Greece's first LEED Platinum single-unit residence, which has been recognized with the German Design Awards and A' Design Awards is featured in EK Magazine March 2026.
LEED for Homes is one of the most demanding global standards for residential sustainability—requiring multiple on‑site verifications, airtight performance testing, detailed documentation, and compliance across dozens of interdependent prerequisites and credits.
Boomerang Athens excelled across the full LEED spectrum, demonstrating leadership in:
Energy Efficiency mechanical equipment, designed by VASILIOS MASTROGIANNIS, in combination with thermal insulation and an airtight building envelope lead to energy savings and better indoor thermal comfort, even at high temperatures.
Closed combustion energy-efficient fireplaces allow the use of wood for heating without compromising the indoor air quality.
Low‑emitting materials and a dedicated mechanical ventilation system combined with extraction fans provide superior indoor air comfort conditions.
Responsible sourced materials and construction waste management minimize the environmental impact of the construction works.
The renovation of an existing building in a dense urban environment aligns with adaptive reuse urban development principles, while providing connection to public transportation and access to basic services in walking distance.
Water efficient fixtures and equipment are part of the responsible water management strategies, leading to operational water savings over the lifetime of the building.
Water saving landscape design strategies implemented by THEOFILOS SOTIRIOU include the use of suitable Mediterranean plants, providing biodiversity, whilst having minimal needs for irrigation, reducing the urban heat island effect and cleaning the air.
Boomerang proves that in Greece, high‑efficiency, low‑impact, future‑ready homes are not aspirational—they are achievable and certifiable.
At Beyond Sustainability we are proud to have played a vital role in this milestone project developed by ECLÉDE, under the leadership of Vassilis Siafaricas, with LEED Green Rater services delivered by Katerina Vagianou.
Beyond certification, Boomerang Athens represents:
A well‑documented case study for the Greek market
A new benchmark aligned with the objectives of the EU Green Deal
A turning point for developers seeking measurable environmental performance and long‑term asset value
This project paves the way for a new generation of homes in Greece—homes that perform better, cost less to operate, and deliver healthier indoor environments.
